Friday the 13th Vocal News is ready to go!

Our first official lesson in our series for “I’d Rather Drink Muddy Water” was released this week and is an excellent showcase for the vocal
talents of Nate Pruitt and guitar skills of Rick Vandivier from Primary Colors, with the thorough break down that we offer at Totally Vocals.

If you missed it, a few topics that we covered in the lessons included setting your tempo, singing in mixed voice and developing good resonance
by using the nasopharanyx.

As for our musical tip of the week, we dive deeper into the structure of the nasopharanyx to help you gain and understanding of the layers that
make up this amazing part of our bodies. We have tips on how you can physically feel the layers and use nasal consonant sounds to help you
understand how this part of our nasal cavity helps us to sing better.

Hi Everyone,

Today's Vocal Mastery Program Addition is now live.

The first lesson in our series for I’d Rather Drink Muddy Water starts with some very interesting concepts.

Because the first note of the melody line starts right in mixed voice, Jim shares a few excellent pointer on how to tackle it as well as an exercise that can help you feel your mixed voice.

We also address the nasopharynx, the three layers and how nasal consonant sounds can aid you in feeling various layers of your nasopharynx. There is also a bit about counting off the tempo, which is demonstrated by Nate Pruitt.

Enjoy!

This weeks wrap up includes a review of both step 18 and 19 in the Melisma Course as they both had very important
topics about how to advance your melisma skills.

For the musical tip of the week, we have a bit of a quest for everyone, we want you to use Youtube to look up various
artists that we recommend as sort of “field work” to hear how these performers sing and to learn about their techniques.

The list is at the end of the video so be sure to take notes so that you can learn from these artists.

Once you begin to recognize the various harmonies that are being used in their performances it will become much
easier for you to recognize their performance elements and then apply them to what your looking to achieve as a singer
or performance artist.

Have fun!

Hi Everyone,

Today's Vocal Mastery Program Addition is now live.

We have more excellent singing tips for you in this week’s wrap up, but first Jim shares a quick recap of the latest
release in the Melisma Singing Course, which dived into the finer points of creating melismas.

Being able to execute smooth, powerful and reliable melisma’s are very important and a lot of it has to do with
keeping your vocal chords agile, which allows your voice to be light and floaty as you execute each of the notes.

You’ll find technical information on how to bring your vocal chords together for an even better chord closure or seal,
which will help you to feel the muscle movement that goes into creating a melisma and how proper movements will
help you accomplish good sounding, smooth and powerful melisma runs. Watch in now on the Melisma Course
lesson page.

Aside from Melisma’s we have some great advice on how to relax both your jaw and tongue, and maintain proper
mouth position to keep a clear pathway while you sing. These techniques that are shared in this week’s wrap up will
help you to eliminate vocal mis-haps and aid you in discovering the full potential of your vocal tone.

Learning to keep a relaxed jaw and how to properly use your tongue by keeping it and flexible are important
components of singing and we have some fun, easy exercises for you this week that will help you to accomplish
the techniques we share this week.

Enjoy!

This week’s wrap up includes a review from Jim’s latest lesson I’d Rather Drink Muddy Water, a classic blues tune.

The performance for the lesson was done by no other than Nate Pruitt and Rick Vandivier from Primary Colors. Nate
is one of the greats when it comes to jazz, R&B and blues, he is highly respected among the music circles on the West Coast.

In addition to Jim’s review of the latest lesson series, we have a clip from one of his monthly performance workshops.
Jim and few of his good friends, including great harmonica artist “Andy Just” share an excellent musical performance that
you don’t want to miss. Andy spontaneously showed up at Jim’s student performance workshop jam, and well…you’ll
have to check it out to see what happened.

Sit back and enjoy this week’s wrap up!

This weeks latest lesson addition was in the Melisma Singing Course, Step 15 was all about getting creative with rhythms.
The better you become at spontaneously creating rhythms the easier it will be to create your own vocal licks spontaneously.

For the musical tip of the week we have a great lesson to teach you on how to better your tone and become consistent in
your delivery of air pressure as you apply it to all of your vowel sounds. A simple exercise to do but extremely powerful for
helping you develop better tone and feeling tension where you never thought it could be.
